For Tanzania’s Tier 2 microfinance institutions

Run your whole loan book in one place.

FinRex is the lending system for microfinance institutions. Clients and KYC, loan products, credit committee approvals, disbursement, repayments, collections and your general ledger work together. It’s built around the Bank of Tanzania’s Tier 2 rules, so compliance is part of the workflow, not a spreadsheet on the side.

Why FinRex

Less reconciling. More lending.

Many institutions run lending on one tool, accounts on another and compliance in a folder. FinRex brings them together, so every loan, payment and decision is recorded once and shows up correctly everywhere.

Compliance in the workflow

Reducing-balance pricing, the Tier 2 repayment allocation order, arrears classification and provisioning, fee approval evidence and pre-collection notices are all applied as staff work, not checked afterwards.

Every shilling accounted for

Disbursements, repayments, fees, penalties, provisions and write-offs post balanced journals to your general ledger automatically. Posted entries are never edited. Mistakes are corrected with linked reversals.

Control without the bottleneck

Multi-step approvals, maker-checker on money movements, and approval limits by role, branch and amount. Nobody approves their own request, and every decision keeps its comment and its history.

The platform

Everything a lending operation needs, connected.

Each part is set up for your institution: your products, your approval flow, your chart of accounts, your branches. Changing them takes configuration, not code.

Clients & KYC

Individuals and businesses with identity documents, verification and expiry tracking, consent records, risk ratings and safe duplicate merging.

Loan products

Limits, terms, frequencies, grace periods, fees and penalties. Preview the schedule and total cost before you launch. Issued loans keep the terms they were sold on.

Applications & appraisal

Capture income, expenses, assets and repayment capacity. Eligibility and exposure checks run before submission. Record site visits, cash-flow analysis and credit-bureau reports.

Approvals

Configurable committee and maker-checker flows for applications, disbursements and reversals. Approve, reject or return for changes, with the full trail.

Agreements & disbursement

Clear loan offers with effective rate and itemised instalments. Record borrower and guarantor acceptance, then disburse with sign-off and receipt evidence.

Repayments

Receipted repayments credited on the date received. Partial and early repayment without penalty. Statements show exactly where every payment went.

Arrears & collections

Days past due, Tier 2 classification and provisions, interest suspense, collection cases, promises to pay, and the 14-day notice before recovery.

Group & centre lending

Borrower groups and centres with leaders, meeting schedules and members. Group loans track each member’s share and the joint guarantee.

Accounting

Chart of accounts from a Tanzania template, fiscal periods with close and lock, trial balance, ledgers, financial statements, and reconciliation with exception handling.

Reports & dashboards

Loan book, disbursements, collections, arrears ageing and portfolio at risk. Export any report to CSV or Excel, with its filters and as-of date on the file.

Capital & liquidity watch

Keeps an eye on the TZS 20 million minimum capital and 5% liquid-assets requirements, and warns you before a breach, not after.

Your institution, your brand

Branches, staff, roles and branch-level access. Your logo and colours, plus notifications to staff and clients about the loan events that matter.

The loan cycle

From first visit to final repayment.

Every step is a controlled, recorded transition. A loan can’t skip its approval, a payment can’t be counted twice, and a retried request never creates a duplicate loan.

Built for Tier 2

The rules you report against, built in.

FinRex is designed around the Microfinance Act and the Bank of Tanzania’s requirements for non-deposit-taking microfinance service providers on the Mainland.

FinRex is software, not legal advice. Your compliance team and counsel stay responsible for your institution’s policies. FinRex helps you apply them consistently and keeps the evidence.

  • Reducing-balance by default

Flat-rate pricing stays blocked unless written clearance is on record.

  • Regulated allocation order

Repayments pay due interest, then fees, then principal.

  • Classification & provisioning

Current through loss bands (1%, 5%, 25%, 50%, 100%) from days past due.

  • Fair early repayment

No penalty, and unearned interest is removed on full settlement.

  • Approved fees only

New fees need the board decision and BoT approval on record, and appear in the agreement.

  • Clear disclosure

Agreements show the stated rate, effective annual rate and every instalment.

  • Notice before recovery

The 14-day pre-collection notice, with its delivery evidence kept.

  • Customer consent

Purpose, wording and evidence recorded before credit-bureau checks.

Security & reliability

Your data stays yours. Your numbers stay right.

Separated by institution

The application and the database each enforce separation, so no user, report or background job can reach another institution’s records.

A full audit trail

Who did what, when and from where, with before and after values for financial, access and configuration changes.

Safe to retry

Loan, disbursement and payment requests are replay-safe. A dropped connection never pays out twice.

Privacy with history intact

Approved data-erasure requests anonymise a client’s personal details while keeping the loan and accounting history auditors need.
